Ambulance or urgent-access lanes, patient drop-off, accessible parking and primary entrances should be identified as first-priority surfaces. Staff entrances and parking may have their own deadline tied to shift changes, while deliveries, waste, oxygen or other service areas need continuous access according to the facility’s operation.

Because patients may have limited mobility, curb cuts, ramps, crosswalks and entrance approaches need a more specific completion standard than general lot clearing. The scope should distinguish mechanical clearing, hand work and approved ice treatment.

Twenty-four-hour sites need escalation rules

Traffic may never stop long enough for a perfect final cleanup. Define how inaccessible stalls are documented, whether return work is included, and who can authorize extra treatment or an additional pass. Roof runoff and meltwater near patient routes should be included in refreeze inspections.
